Hope, Resilience, and Pantone’s Color of the Year 2021

In 2019, I created two art quilts, Gift of Resilience #1 and #2. The pieces were part of my solo exhibition Alchemy of Resilience at the Galleries of the Art Council of Moore County in Southern Pines, NC.

Frequently my work revolves around mindfulness, emotional well-being and personal growth as I’m in awe of the human spirit and the inner strength of humans to cope when faced with adversity, tragedy, or severe health issues.

I’m fascinated by our ability to heal and our capacity for resilience. We fall, but we get up. We fail, yet we try again. We are determined, we persevere, and we do not give up easily.

Little did I know that only a few months after my exhibition the global pandemic of Covid-19 would cause immense heartbreak all around the world. We all struggled and many of us are still struggling. But as the months go by, we realize that we are resilient. For sure, we won’t give up easily!

Pantone, a company that is famous for developing color systems, decided to make Pantone Ultimate Gray and Pantone Illuminating the Colors of the Year 2021.

Pantone Colors of the Year 2021

Here is the statement of Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, about their choice:

Image Quote

Which colors symbolize hope and resilience for you?

Is it the white of a blank page in a new journal that will be filled with words about your dreams?

Is it the light green of the first leaves growing in the spring, promising new life after a long winter?

Or is it the soft blue of hyacinths emerging from under the snow?

Whatever color you choose, Ultimate Gray combined with Illuminating Yellow or any other hue, surround yourself with it so the color will inspire you, lift you up, and encourage you to press forward.

Remember, resilience means never giving up on hope and light!

PS: I’m currently creating a new body of work around hope and resilience, so please connect with me on Instagram or Facebook or send me a quick email and tell me which colors symbolize hope and resilience for you. Your colors might inspire my next piece!
